‘Restrictions’ Carte Blanche S/S 20 collection

The Carte Blanche S/S 20 collection is based on historical restrictive garments. The collection is inspired by the modernisation and recreation of key aspects of restrictive garments in a contemporary way to empower women rather than oppress them. The collection uses elements of coral shapes to inspire unusual silhouettes; emphasising women’s bodies in a non-sexualised way to portray strong and tougher exteriors. Aspects of the collection show a contrast of looseness and tightness in materials and design features, for example binding and tying the body against lightweight materials such as silks, to portray how women have broken free from patriarchal themes in women’s dress.
