In today’s society, the balance between production, consumption and waste is disrupted that the Earth cannot sustain natural resource depletion anymore. It is critical to minimise the side effect of overconsumption by creatively thinking about waste management. My practice explores the relationship between the object and light, and the usage of upcycling in design. The meaning of upcycling is turning unwanted materials into something useful. Therefore, I reused one-off or wasted materials such as plastic spoons, cups and bottles to create functional lamps. The lamp’s forms are inspired by geometric structure, repetition and analogy of nature. The desired outcome of the works is to promote the possibility of upcycling through playful lamp designs as well as demonstrating the collaboration of luminosity and form in aesthetic perspectives.
