Often there can be unintentional beauty found within something that isn’t new, such as peeling paint falling from the surface of a building- uncovering previous exterior colours, or a drain cover which displays an intriguing pattern covered with years of rust and dirt from those who have walked over it. Texture surrounds us, and the interesting textural surfaces found upon man made concepts are endless. Observed textures have been re-created using various materials and techniques such as hand embroidery and needle felting to form a collection of decorative designs suitable for an interior market. The main focus of this collection was to produce tactile surfaces which incorporated bold considered colours, and layers of visualised marks and patterns taken from primary sources. Smart materials such as solar activated/glow in the dark thread have been incorporated as well as electronic circuits.
